Plenty of new faces and a few bands from last year’s program that keep impressing us. We have selected these 2010 OTV Bands from the hundreds that submitted and have vowed to help them get the word out as to why YOU should be listening to them.

   Since the Oh, The Story’s conception, they have managed to build a large and dedicated fan base with their dynamic stage presence and engaging alternative rock/pop songs. "We are inspired by and draw from bands and artists who have really evoked change and broken barriers with their music. That's what we aspire to do."

   Washington Square Park is made up of individuals well aware of how fast time flies. They don't expect to see home much or have much money in their pockets over the next few years, but to quote Max, "I'd rather rot in a gutter (guitar in hand) than have to fill out TPS reports for Bob."

   Life Is Motion, the debut EP by American Classic, is a representation of the changes one can feel and experience throughout life. With a bright and promising future ahead, American Classic hopes to reignite today’s music scene, with a true and devoted love for the music.

 

Trees Above Mandalay myspace.com/treesabovemandalay

   Trees Above Mandalay has musical influences that range from metal and hardcore to pop and jazz that they hope can be heard in their songs. This upcoming summer they will be doing heavy touring to promote the re-release of their Palace EP, out this week.

   They bring the compelling twist of relatable lyrics, exasperating riffs and chords, consuming beats and melodious vocals, presenting a spine-tingling and mind-engaging sound that could never be expected. Jersey's own The Victory will be the biggest musical thrill of your life.

   The Title started off as an electronic band based out of Hoboken in 2007 and quickly became a quintet, adding guitar, bass and live drums. Having just released their sophomore record and fifth (!) release overall, Safe With Me, in March, the band regularly plays all around the tri-state area.

   Your Sister's Canary is a dynamic trio delivering show-stopping performances reminiscent of a sultry Broadway production without compromising the raw authenticity of an intimate club atmosphere. Their current EP, Bread & Butter, represents the group's light-hearted take on life's ups-and-downs while articulating an overarching message of optimism. They have managed to fuse a fresh blend of blues/pop, jazz/rock, and soul/doo-wop into an ever-growing repertoire of new material, some of which has been recorded in preparation for a Summer 2010 release.

   The Ugly Club is a diverse and ever-growing project of musical ideas and styles. Founded by Ryan Egan, Taylor Mandel, Ryan McNulty, and Michael Sue-Poi, the group immediately began collaborating on songwriting and arranging, bringing together unique musicality to create a refreshing form of indie-rock soul. Together, they released their debut EP, Sing What You Want.

In early 2009, It's Not Over entered their new single “Kiss Kiss (Break Up)” in the original music contest on makeastar. After numerous rounds of voting, It’s Not Over made it to the top eight out of hundreds of bands and appeared on Fuse TV numerous times. They will release their first full-length album in mid-late 2010.


Sour Goat

   Formally Milan, the New Jersey-based musical group’s self-described style is "Roots, Rock, Reggae With That East Coast Sound." Sour Goat has a modern rock sound that blends varying ethnic musical forms, solid lyrics that tell a story, and a live sound that focuses on jams, sing-along choruses, and classic guitar and drum solos.

   Featuring violent guitar riffs, pulsating double bass, and pit-provoking breakdowns, UIA’s sound is balanced by captivating melodic vocals. This ever-evolving brand of sound proves a truly visceral experience time and time again, leaving their growing fan base salivating for Reflections release.

   Formerly LockJaw, WARHORSE is an up-and-coming thrash metal band from New Jersey, combining aggressive speed with melody and hooks. Warhorse is comprised of five members who each bring their own unique style and playing abilities to the table.

   Party-Pop quintet Under Spinning Lights from Long Island, NY are known for fusing pop-punk and electronica to create tunes that are catchy, energetic, and make you want to dance! These handsome individuals have been compared to Cobra Starship, Forever the Sickest Kids, Breathe Carolina, Owl City, and Cash Cash.

   Dave Pittenger is a NJ native who has toured 26 states and Canada and has shared the stage with bands like Hootie and the Blowfish, Sister Hazel and Blues Traveler.  Pittenger is currently writing new material for a new record to be produced by Chris Kuffner (Ingrid Michaelson).

   For The Record released their debut EP, Fair Love and War, in March and "Push," the band's first single has already gained radio play. With a wide range of influences, their live show is an energetic mix of sing-along melodies and a crowd that always wants more.

   Memories In Play fuses cutting edge musicality with innovative songwriting. In an attempt to bring an original yet alternative, pop-punk sound, MIP has combined today’s catchiness without sacrificing musical talent and innovation. “Everyone has their own story to tell, and we feel that music allows us to express ourselves in ways words simply cannot.”

   Bern and The Brights are known for their evocative and energetic live show. With radiant chemistry and strong musicianship, they create an infectious, positive emotion that takes over and transforms any room. Their “effortless genre-bending” sound has been compared to artists such as R.E.M., Dave Matthews Band, Jeff Buckley and Coldplay.

   Move over Chiodos and A Day To Remember; with any luck—Iselin, NJ-based Marilyn Is Dead will have rooms bursting with dancing hardcore kids with a sweet tooth for synths and soaring vocals. Oh, and don’t forget the Cher-worthy bridges that evolve into growling breakdowns.

   The Accelerators, influenced largely by the Ramones, were started by singer/bass player/songwriter Ron Nole in 1981 with talented but troubled lead guitarist John T. Hansen, backed by Dave Ross on drums. The Accelerators have recently completed a new LP, Do You Remember Punk?

   Sexy as hell, and fueled by an appetite for sausages, destruction and lots of coffee, the New Jersey born band Sherazada is taking the New Jersey music scene by storm. The boys say they have one common goal—Sherazada is on a mission to bring eargasms across the country.

 

Gerald Edward myspace.com/geraldedward

   Gerald Edward is part of a new generation of singer/songwriters continuing the American rock tradition. At times modern rock, folk pop or blues tinged neo-soul, his songs cut across genres. His sound is comparable to John Mayer, David Gray, Elliott Smith, and The Beatles.

   GOLD, formed in mid/late 2008, plays a brand of heavier/more experimental music, and plays for the joy of sharing it with whoever cares to listen. GOLD's debut full length album We Are Wandering released online on June 8th, 2009 for free.

   After years of paying their dues as a completely independent band, Statelman—formed in July of 2006—has managed to make their mark as something unique in the New Jersey music scene. After landing their first record deal, Statelman is poised to continue shaking things up.

   What sets Valhalla apart is their desire to perform and to please their audience. Five guys who met by accident (even though they all live only a mile apart from each other and go to the same high school), they all love Zeppelin and live off a street called Valhalla, hence the name. Two brothers, two cousins and a good friend, you’d think Valhalla does everything together, but in fact, they only come together in the common cause of music.

   Until Faces Change formed in early May 2009 and have been playing shows throughout Jersey since. The quintet has already appeared at the School of Rock and The Stone Pony. They’re currently planning a tour for this upcoming summer, planning to reach ears far beyond New Jersey.

   The band's original songs are backdropped by classic hard rock riffs, alt/punk chords, power choruses and driving lyrics about navigating the intersection of a "social networking" culture and the ever changing teenage world. 

 

Varcella myspace.com/varcella

   Varcella is a hard rock group who have proven themselves with a fantastic live show and fun, energetic music that has been quoted to "kick you in the teeth and not let up until it’s over.” Their debut EP was released in September 2009 and is available on iTunes and Smartpunk.com.


Jon Gambino myspace.com/jongambino

   Over the past few years, Jon Gambino has become New Jersey's diamond in the rough. His original music has captured the hearts of audiences all over the tri-state area and his approach to live music is turning heads everywhere. 2010 marks the beginning of national tours and the first official release of an EP, out this summer

   With sights set high and failure not an option, Lights In Lost Skies is moving forward in the world with their catchy pop-rock. “At the end of the day, it’s all for the fans and the feedback we get back. It’s a beautiful and indescribable feeling to express yourself through music and have it touch someone else as much as it touched you.”

 

After Edmund

   Since the release of its 2008 national debut disc Hello, After Edmund’s scored mounds of critical kudos, toured from coast to coast and amassed a swelling fan base. Amidst those adventures, the group scored a highly coveted Grammy nomination (subsequently strutting down the red carpet in style while hanging with members of Death Cab For Cutie and Metallica), and opened up for Linkin Park’s famed Projekt Revolution tour, while also scoring radio singles “Like a Dream,” “Fighting for Your Heart (Let It Go)” and “Clouds.”

   The last year has been an exciting one for Kids Of Survival: FOX News used their song, “My Addiction” to promote their Good Morning L.A. show; they played 2009’s NJ Bamboozle Festival and they passed 6 million plays on their MySpace site. From Buchanan, GA to Los Angeles and everywhere in between, KoS have sold out shows and drawn fans. After opting out of an early record deal with a small label, they chose to remain independent. They are now touring with Deliver the Message and are already writing new music for a third full-length CD.

 

Sunset Atlantic

   Formally known as The Doppler Effect, Sunset Atlantic is a six-piece band comprised of nerdy dudes who are obsessed with playing music. They've shared the stage with Hit The Lights, Every Avenue, We The Kings and Metro Station and recorded their debut EP Just Dance with producers Kenneth Mount and Zack Odom (Mayday Parade, Cartel, All Time Low) at Tree Sound Studios in Atlanta, GA. Stopping at nothing to make their dreams a reality, look for a full-length release from Sunset Atlantic this summer.

   In a world of serious and sullen musicians, one band shines through the gloom to bring a new attitude to the music scene—Sexy Heroes. With their eccentric lyrics about pirates and video game princesses, you wont soon forget this electric yellow band.
